Manual/Diagram Documentation Effort
The purpose of the Manual Library is to give GScalers a single place to visit to pull up documentation for their G scale locomotives and rolling stock. As you can see by visiting the library, there are still many manuals and part diagrams missing. Manufacturer-provided PDFs are available where they could be found, but in many cases the manuals were only provided in hard-copy format or are no longer available electronically. If you'd like to help complete the library, there are a number of ways you can help.
Before reading further, it should be known that no 'credits' or 'provided by' text will be added to the Manual Library page - not even for the Web Masters. The copyrights of the documentation remain the sole property their respective creators, and the purpose of the library is to simply aggregate that documentation into a single, convinient-to-use page for everyone to enjoy. Per GScale.Net's agreements with many of the manufacturers, all company branding / copyrights are to remain intact and appear on this site exactly as they would in their original form. It would be inconvenient for users if the library page itself was cluttered with credits.
Scan Your Manual
If you have a hard copy of a missing manual and have the technical expertise to produce a clean, crisp PDF or just images of the pages, it would be incredible if you could provide those for everyone to use. Of course something is better than nothing, but here are the guidelines that were used to scan other hard copies:
- Color Format: Black and white
- Resolution (DPI): 500
- Only manuals without frayed edges were scanned, minimizing the amount of 'scanned wrinkles' that make it into the final PDF.
Let Me Borrow Your Manual
If you have a manual in good condition, I will pay postage both ways if you're willing to let me borrow it. It takes less than a day to convert a manual to PDF, but life happens so expect it to be gone for around a week. If the manual is wrinkled or otherwise warrants sitting under a stack of books for a while, it may take a little longer. Here's some information on the manual scanning process:
- Staples will need to be removed, and the manual re-stapled after scanning is complete.
- For booklet-style manuals, each pair of pages will be folded backwards once so that each page can be scanned independently and with minimal background noise.
- Crisp, non-folded manuals are preferred as this reduces the amount of 'fuzz' that gets captured by the scanner.
Email me if you have a manual I can borrow.
Let Me Buy Your Manual
Same thing happens noted as above, except you don't get your manual back. My standard buying price for all manuals is $3/ea.
Email me if you're interested in selling some manuals.
